Adoption Process

If you wish to adopt an animal from WIAR please follow these steps:

See what animals are up for adoption:
- Check out the Available for Adoption section on home page or browse through recent posts on the WIAR Facebook page.
- If you are interested in a specific animal, please contact WIAR for more information on regarding their situation.
Set up an appointment to meet the animal you wish to adopt.
Fill out an Adoption Application online (link above) or come into shelter to get adoption application form and return to WIAR, Fax: 309-715-7169 or Email: wiarrescue@yahoo.com.
We will then review your application and contact you as soon as possible regarding your adoption.

Please keep in mind that while our goal is to find homes for all of our animals, some situations may not be the best for individual animals. WIAR wants every animal to be as happy and healthy as possible and we place animals in the situations we feel they would thrive in. Please work with us to ensure you are adopting the animal that would be the best match for you and your home.

A "meet & greet" with your potential dog is required with any other dog living in the same household for the safety of both dogs.

Adoption Fees

Dogs (7 months & over) $200.00
Puppies (under 7 months) $225.00
Cats (7 months & over) $55.00
Kittens (under 7 months) $75.00

Adoption fees include:

General Heath Exam
Spay or Neuter
Flea Treatment
Deworming
Rabies, Distemper Vaccinations (Parvo for Dogs)
Bordetella (dogs)
FIVL Testing - (cats over 6 months)
Heartworm Testing and preventative (Dogs)
Microchip

Many of our animals have much higher health care costs. If you would like to make a donation to help with these costs, please read more about donating to WIAR.

In some cases, WIAR will work with people who, for whatever reason, cannot meet all of our adoption standards. Exceptions can be made based on the individual situation if the person wishing to adopt can provide a safe and loving home for the animal. There may be additional paperwork or home visits required in these situations. If you have any concerns with meeting our adoption standards, please feel free to contact us so we can work together throughout this process.
